The new Dell XPS 13 comes with the processors 12-generation of Intel Alder Lake CPUs

Today, Thursday, Dell presented for 2022, the new model of the series XPS 13 (9315) that incorporates the new processors 12 generation Intel Alder Lake, which add more cores and architecture Hybrid. The new laptop is quite thin with a thickness of at 13.9 mm. and it weighs just 1.174 grams, compared to its predecessor, which was 14.8 mm. with weight 1.197 grams. The new XPS 13 is now available in America and Canada  with an initial price of 999 dollars with Windows 11 or 949$ with Ubuntu 20.04 Developer Edition.

Externally, the new model 9315 is similar in appearance to the 9310, which was the previous generation processor (11), presented the 2020, before it is added to the model with the OLED screen.

Dell says that “removed the unnecessary steps in the construction, removing the finishes, but also by reducing materials”. The new laptop is becoming the premium aluminum with mechanical processing CNC. It’s a familiar look, but clean enough with either the Sky (grey), with either Umber (brown) finish aluminium. The fingerprint sensor remains embedded in the power button, while the Thunderbolt ports 4 also remain on both sides. At the same time, there is no headphone jack in this year’s model.

Most notable changes are on the inside and they come to cope with the problems of 9310, such as web camera, speakers, and a keyboard that overheated easily. The internal layout has been redesigned to include the smallest motherboard Dell ever made (1.8 times less than the previous model), leaving space for larger speakers and more. Text features indicate the use of this space for a larger battery of 51 watt-hours, compared with the 9310 of up to 52 watt-hours. It also has a fan, instead of two, who had the 9310.

During the movement, the Dell lists two options with CPU 10-core, or i5-1230U or i7-1250U with Intel graphics Iris Xe. The options on the RAM will be: 8 GB, 16 GB or 32 GB and the space of the disk, SSD 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB. According to Dell, the most efficient model i5 will be able to play Netflix in a row for up to 12 hours (or 11 hours in the most efficient processor i7) and up to 6 hours in a model equipped with a i7, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD and screen 4K resolution.

In terms of screens, there’s no longer version available with OLED, as well as the options include a touch screen 4K UHD+ (3840×2400) or HD+ (1920 x 1200), or with the possibility of touch control, or without. This year it has support for WiFi 6E, but not yet 5G, as this is for an upcoming edition 2-in-1. The aluminum frame is low carbon content to reduce the footprint, while this year’s model shipped in new packaging from 100% recycled or renewable material.
The Web camera is also upgraded, separating the sensors infrared and RGB for enhanced imaging in low light and, although the Dell set the camera in the right spot a few years ago, it still has low resolution, in 720p. This model also adds technology ExpressSign-In Dell that uses a proximity sensor in combination with facial recognition for Windows Hello to detect when you are in front of the laptop and connects you automatically and locks when you walk away or reduce the screen brightness for saving battery, while you are elsewhere.
