The MacBook Pro 13-inch with chipset M2 occupies a weird space in the current range of Apple’s Mac — and there’s no reason for most users to buy it.
During the central speech at WWDC 2022 Monday, Apple revealed the chipset M2 that feeds a newly redesigned MacBook Air. In addition to a slew of new features, the MacBook Air 2022 has also received the most significant design revision of the model years.
Oddly enough, Apple also unveiled a new model MacBook Pro 13 inch with upgraded Apple Silicon. Unlike the MacBook Air, however, the new MacBook Pro has really no change from its predecessor.
So the new MacBook Pro 13 inch and the redesigned MacBook Air have the newest chip M2 of Apple, which is a gradual upgrade in comparison with the M1.
When it comes to the updates received by each model, there ends the similarities.
The new MacBook Air has a renewed design that is much thinner than its predecessors. It features upgraded web camera 1080p HD, upgraded audio system with four speakers, charging port MagSafe, a larger screen 13,6 inch and new color options.
The MacBook Pro 13-inch, on the other hand, has none of these characteristics. Maintains a draft that was presented for the first time in 2016, it has a charging port MagSafe and the screen is 0.3 inches less than that of the MacBook Air.
In addition to the old version of the MacBook Air with a chip M1, which is still sold, the MacBook Pro 13-inch is the only current Mac has used FaceTime camera 720p. Even the basic iPad has built-in a better camera.
Oh, he also happens to be the only Mac in the current range of Apple reserves, for some reason, even the Touch Bar.
To put it differently, there is a much greater list of features that are “missing” in the new MacBook Pro 13-inch from the new features. The device has a chip M2, encoding and decoding of ProRes and a bit of extra battery life. That’s it.
Apple is not revealed because it keeps the MacBook Pro 13-inch with upgraded chip — in that order. It is likely that the company may not confirm why.
The MacBook Pro 13-inch is made officially available to order on 17 June, while the new MacBook Air with M2 is still not anywhere. Given the lack of changes, it is logical that the MacBook Pro would be ready to be released earlier, but lends credibility to the theory that the Apple landing older accessories.
Of course, the MacBook Pro 13-inch continues to have active cooling, which means that it could maintain workflows high-performance for a longer period of time than the MacBook Air without a fan. This is the only advantage of the MacBook Pro vs. MacBook Air and it may not even matter for most users.
The preservation of the MacBook Pro is essentially unchanged, it would make sense if you accept a drop in price. However, the MacBook Pro 13-inch costs $1.299 — the same exact price as its predecessor. This is also $100 more expensive than the MacBook Air, which has enough new features to justify the cost.
